French Polynesia, large "Putoka" marine conch made from the sea snail "charonia tritonis", or "giant triton", or "Neptune's trumpet". The end of the shell has been cut off to create a terminal mouthpiece. The "Putoka" conch was used to unite the population during tribal wars. Nowadays, it heralds the return of fishermen to the sea and takes part in festivities.
