PRESUMED PORTRAIT OF EMPEROR CONSTANTINE II IN MARBLE
Roman art, 4th century AD
This imposing male head depicts a man smiling slightly. The pupils of the eyes are marked with semicircular incisions, as was common practice towards the end of the Imperial period. The hair is in curved locks arranged in regular horizontal rows. The shoulders are covered with a drape, some folds of which still remain. Gaps and chips are visible.

A Roman marble presumed portrait head of the Emperor Constantine II, 4th century A.D.
The physiognomy and hairstyle of the clearly important figure take us back to the monumental and famous effigy of the Emperor Constantine preserved in the Palazzo dei Conservatori in Rome. If we compare it with coins from this period, we cannot rule out the possibility that it is a portrait of his son, Constantine II.
