Porcelain painting "The Rape of the Daughters of Leucippus". after Rubens
Rectangular panel with a mythological depiction of the abduction of Hilaeira and Phoibe, the daughters of King Leucippus of Argos, by the Dioscuri Castor and Pollux. The mortal Castor, the horse-tamer, sits on a horse, receiving one of the Leucippides from his immortal brother Pollux. After the 1618 painting by Peter Paul Rubens, now in the Alte Pinakothek in Munich. Fine, polychrome painting. Old embossed dealer's label "Giuseppe Melli/Florence" verso. Press no. 237-158, impressed sceptre and KPM mark. Elaborately designed, open-worked and gilt stucco frame with leaf rocaille decoration (minimally dam.). Plate 24 cm x 16 cm. Frame 38 cm x 30 cm.

Verso old retailer's paper label "Giuseppe Melli/Florence". Impressed sceptre and KPM mark. Minor dents to the frame.
