Magnificent lidded box with swan service decoration Oval body supported by eight feet, curved handles at the sides in the shape of dolphins. Domed lid, centre with fully sculpted knob in the shape of a swan with plumage in relief, turning towards a putto. The wall and lid decorated with shell-shaped, transversely and longitudinally ribbed relief decoration with coloured Indian flower branches and scattered blossoms. Fine, polychrome painting with combed gold edge. Designed by Johann Friedrich Eberlein. Model no. 05828, crossed swords mark. H. 12 cm, w. 18 cm. In Eberlein's work report, the model is described as "1 butter dish like a shell, with a swan and child on it, along with two fish handles." This somewhat larger remodelling without a floral wreath in relief. Cf. Pietsch, cat. Swan service, no. 37. and p. 202. A splendid lidded porcelain butter dish with "swan service" decor.
