Lot no. 55
Magnificent Meissen jardiniere with cockatoo from the "Reineke Fuchs" table decoration
5-piece; Consisting of four trapezoidal rounded bowls standing on stylised feet, two of them with corresponding monkeys sitting on the rim on a branch of leaves. The centrepiece is a bell-shaped vase on a high, curved pedestal with a rising, openwork lid and a sculptural crown in the shape of a cockatoo. Subtle polychrome painting with gold decoration. Designed by Max Esser, 1922, model no. H 214, minimal rest. in places; crossed swords mark and white goods and "Reineke Fuchs" mark. Total h. 45 cm. Total d. 50 cm.
In reminiscence of the splendid table designs of the Baroque period, Esser created a table decoration consisting of 75 pieces between 1919 and 1926, which thematically takes up Goethe's epic "Reineke Fuchs". In addition to "Reineke Fuchs" as the main piece, this included other animal figures such as the lion, bear and baboon as well as bowls and candlesticks. The expressive iron-red painting corresponds to Esser's "Strahlenmuster" service designed in 1926 and perfectly complements the centrepiece, which is designed as a complete work of art.
