Magnificent Meissen potpourri vase with "Amor, seinen goldenen. Sharpening his golden arrow" after A. R. Mengs On a round base with square plinth, ovoid body with offset, flat shoulder and raised, moulded handles. Open-worked bonnet lid with floral decoration, central knob in the shape of an oak wreath with bow. On the wall, a gold-ornamented medallion surrounded by tendrils in a cobalt blue background. On the front, a curly-haired Cupid with coloured wings. The upward-looking son of the goddess Venus pauses while sharpening his golden arrow and waits for his mother's instruction as to whom it should hit next. Based on a pastel drawing by Anton Raphael Mengs from his early phase, created around 1752/53. A colourful bouquet of flowers on the reverse. Revolving relief decoration of oak leaf wreaths and rosettes. Fine, polychrome painting with gold staffage, gold ornamentation and leaf borders. Centreboard mark. H. 30 cm. Cf. royal Saxon.
