Magnificent Napoleon III fan in a display frame 14 ivory folding and 2 ivory cover bars, open-worked. The fan leaf made of paper, printed and coloured on the front and partially gilt with three cartouches in ornamental acanthus vine decoration. In the centre is the depiction of a lady reclining under palm trees with her entourage playing the harp or presenting jewellery, on each side two ladies with flowers or wreaths of flowers. Mounted on red velvet fabric. Fan-shaped, ornamented wooden frame. Damaged; overall size 64 cm x 42 cm. CITES certificate available. Provenance: Dissolution of an important German private collection - Part II. A French Napoleon III fan with frame. Damaged. CITES included. France. 2nd half 19th cent.
