Magnificent Meissen coffee dejeuner decorated with lily of the valley and forget-me-nots 6-piece set; coffee pot, milk jug, sugar bowl, 2 coffee cups with saucers and large tray. "New cut-out" shape. Ear and branch handles, bracket moulding and matching domed lid with rose finial. Above the foot and around the rim and in the centre a dense foliage background with blooming white lilies of the valley, merging into flower stems with blue and occasional pink forget-me-nots outlined by vertical gold fields. Surrounding ornamental border. Occasional central, gilded flower star. Fine polychrome painting with gold staffage. Decor designed by Ludwig Guner. Sword mark. Lid roses very minimally chipped; jug h. 24 cm. Tray 40 cm x 34 cm. The versatile Ludwig Gruner (1801-1882) became director of the Dresden Kupferstichkabinett after advising on the establishment of the art collection of the English royal family. He designed the service with lily of the valley and forget-me-nots for the Meissen porcelain manufactory, which was awarded the gold medal at the 1862 World Exhibition.
