Magnificent Meissen coffee and tea service with forest bird decoration 17-piece set; coffee and tea pot, teapot, milk jug, tea caddy, sugar bowl, decorative bowl, 4 coffee cups and 6 tea cups with saucers. Neubrandenstein relief decoration. Various colourful birds sitting on a branch or in naturalistic surroundings on both sides of the wall or in the mirror and on the lid. Scattered flying butterflies and insects. Branch-shaped handle decorated with sculptural flowers at the base and lid crowned with flowers. Fine polychrome painting, probably by Christoph Gottlob Häntzschel after ornithological studies by Eleazer Albin. Partially minimally dam. / remn.; Marked with sword mark. H. coffee pot 23.5 cm. The models for the painterly design probably go back to the writings "A Natural history of Birds" by Eleazer Albin (1690 - probably 1742), published in the 1730s, which the manufactory acquired from the court bookseller Walther in Dresden and passed on to Johann Gregorius Hoeroldt in 1745. Hoeroldt passed the models on to the painter Christan Gottlob Häntzschel, whom he considered suitable for this type of painting. Cf. Bodinek, Raffinesse im Akkord, vol. 2, pp. 12f.; Rückert, cat.
