Magnificent pair of Meissen candlesticks with allegories of the seasons High triangular base supported by large volutes with an architectural, moulded finial. Attached, baluster-shaped shaft merging into a vase-shaped spout. Rocaille decoration in relief on all sides with rich floral coverings and colourful flower arrangements and insects framed in reserves. Below seated cupids with garlands, fruit baskets and grapevines as allegories of spring, summer and autumn. Polychrome painting with gold staffage. Designed by Ernst August Leuteritz. Unmarked rest; crossed swords mark. H. 47 cm.
