Magnificent pair of Meissen candlesticks with allegories of the seasons High triangular base supported by large volutes with an architectural, moulded finial. Attached, baluster-shaped shaft merging into a vase-shaped spout. Rocaille decoration in relief on all sides with rich flower coverings and colourful floral arrangements framed in reserves. Below seated cupids with garlands, fruit baskets and grapevines as allegories of spring, summer and autumn. Removable, 5-light chandelier centrepiece with curved arms, leafy drip catchers and rich floral decoration. Polychrome painting with gold decoration. Designed by Johann Joachim Kaendler and Johann Friedrich Eberlein. Minimally dam.; unmarked; crossed swords mark. Total h. 59 cm.
