Precious bedroom furniture consisting of a piece of furniture with a mirror and a large mirror to be placed on the floor. All veneered in ivory on an ebony base, richly decorated in arabesque, inlaid with mother-of-pearl, horn and a polychrome composition imitating hardstone marquetry. Rich ornamentation in chased and gilded bronze with vases of flowers, foliage and foliage scrolls and rope knots. The extreme preciousness of this set and its fine workmanship indicate a prestigious commission or a demonstration of expertise at a major exhibition. The presence of the heraldic motif of the Savoy knot interlaced with a daisy in the rope decoration may indicate a commission for the new royal house of Italy, probably for Queen Marguerite of Italy.
