Lot no. 202
First third of the 20th century
An astonishing piece of prisoner-of-war work featuring a large number of men's faces on two screw-top barrels, the upper part symbolising the 23 countries that made up Europe in 1914, and the lower part the delegates who signed the 1920 Peace Agreement.
The two barrels are completed by a double saleron (or double snuffbox) in the shape of boat hulls, decorated with shellfish, fish and crustaceans. The ends are adorned, one with Marianne in profile and the other with the sculptor's self-portrait.
H. 58 cm - W. 24 cm
Mounted as a lamp, lids missing, base added, cracked and slightly missing.
