PREMIUM LOT - THANGKA BARDO MANDALA, TIBET, XVII SECOLO Provenance: from the private collection of a Milanese gentleman who formed it in the late seventies and bought mostly from the Eskenazi gallery in Milan A BARDO MANDALA THANGKA, TIBET, 17TH CENTURY 75 cm high , 50 cm wide Gouache on cotton with silk mount and the reverse with Tibetan inscriptions and the stupa. The so called Bardo thangka is about the between-state depiction showing the various forms of Deities who manifest themselves during the between (bard-do) state after death and before rebirth, in circular realms related to the transmigratory vision. In the concentric external circles an array of vision of deities produced by the psyche of the deceased immediately after the death- a Lama (in the upper right side of the painting) usually assists in instructing the person before the death to prepare to face the vision . In the central circle the Six Buddhas of the Six Realms: demi-god, animal, infernal hungry ghost, human, God's realm, who will try to seduce the deceased and bring him to their Realm. On the sixth day the five Buddhas appear together to prevent the deceased to have bad visions and consequently bad karma and the carmic energy of the individual is transmigrated to a new beginning.
