PROUST (Marcel) In Search of Lost Time. 13 pet. in-8 volumes (19 x 12 and 19.4 x 14.3 cm), paperback, printed covers. First edition of all volumes of this masterpiece of French literature. The first volume, Du côté de chez Swann, was published by Grasset, following Gide's refusal to publish Marcel Proust's work with Gallimard. The volume bears all the hallmarks of a first edition: the title page is misprinted as "Grasset", the cover is dated 1913, the printing was completed on 8 November 1913, and there is no table of contents. It is complete with the 4 leaves of the publisher's catalogue, on lightly tinted green paper. À l'ombre des jeunes filles en fleurs is fictitiously listed as the sixth edition on the cover; the completed printing is dated 30 November 1918. The volumes of Le Côté de Guermantes, Sodome et Gomorrhe and La Prisonnière, are each one of the copies printed on Lafuma-Navarre vellum paper (print run varying from 800 to 1,200 copies). Le Côté de Guermantes is complete with the errata bifolium published separately. Albertine disparue, and one of the 14 hors commerce copies reserved for friends of the first edition (no. c); it is complete with the publisher's very rare pink headband with Proust's photographic portrait. It also includes a card reading "From Dr Robert Proust in memory of his brother Marcel". Le Temps retrouvé includes the same card, as well as a pink insert announcing these volumes: "Never perhaps has a work been more eagerly awaited, more impatiently desired than the last volume of À la recherche du temps perdu. Very fine condition for this rare set. Small tears and creases on the cover of the first volume, tiny creases on the other covers, sporadic light spotting on some edges, some very light foxing.
