A scholar, painter and calligrapher, Pu Ru was a cousin of the emperor Pu Yi (1908-1912). He was considered as talented as his contemporary Zhang Daqian, both being referred to as "P'u of the North and Chang of the South". Both left China for Taiwan when Mao Zedong came to power.
