Lot no. 38
PUIFORCAT Tea and coffee service based on a design by François-Thomas GERMAIN, in silver (925 thousandths), comprising four pieces: a coffee pot, a teapot, a covered sugar bowl and a creamer. (Grips missing.) Coffee pot: height 29 cm, weight 1866 g. ; Teapot: height 20 cm, weight 1593 g. ; Creamer: height 13 cm, weight 523 g. ; Sugar bowl: height 12 cm, weight 1001 g. This service bears the name of the goldsmith who created the coffee pot, which inspired the Puiforcat craftsmen to create the complete service some two hundred years later. Louis-Victor Puiforcat, a collector of goldsmiths and owner of this coffee pot, asked his craftsmen to reproduce it and to imagine the elements that could surround it to compose a complete set. He named the service after François-Thomas Germain, a renowned goldsmith who served the King of France and many European courts.
