QUA, Calabar region, Cross River State, south-east Nigeria. The first Qua ceramics were found during excavations carried out in the Calabar region to build roads. This rare terracotta neck rest is engraved with geometric and symbolic motifs. The circular opening, topped with small holes, evokes a face. Presumed to date from the 14th-16th centuries.
