Lot no. 133
RACINE (Jean). Œuvres, avec des commentaires, par M. Luneau de Boisjermain. Paris, Louis Cellot, 1768. 6 volumes in-8 (of 7), red morocco, triple gilt fillet with fleurons at the corners, figure CD in an oval medallion in the centre, ornate spine, inner lace, gilt edges on marbling (Period binding). Famous edition illustrated by Gravelot with 12 hors texte figures engraved by Duclos, Le Mire, Le Vasseur, Simonet, here before the letter, and portraits of Racine and Corneille executed by Gaucher after Santerre and Le Brun. The sixth volume has a false London address, a sign of first printing. A very fine copy bound in red morocco with the cipher of a member of the Crémeaux d'Entragues family, according to the attribution of the bookseller Damascène Morgand given in an autograph letter attached to the copy. It probably belonged to Jules-César de Crémeaux (1732-1780), marquis of Entragues and count of Saint-Trivier, lieutenant-general of Burgundy in the government of Mâcon and grand falconer of France. The seventh volume, containing the Correspondence, is missing. Cohen, 847 - Reynaud, 440.
