Serenade on the beach
Signed Raffaello Celommi bottom left
Oil on canvas, cm 70X100
From his studio overlooking the sea, Raffaello Celommi observed life on the beach every day: the fishermen intent on their work, the boats pulled ashore, the children's games, the Abruzzi women selling fish. With the same sensitivity and mastery he had inherited from his father, he translated these fragments of everyday life onto canvas, restoring their truth and poetry. Esteemed by Francesco Paolo Michetti, from whom he also drew inspiration in terms of colourism, Celommi developed a personal pictorial language, characterised by a transparent brushstroke and a luminous palette, dominated by pink and blue tones that light up the skies and illuminate marine atmospheres. His painting, intense and sincere, celebrates the simple beauty of popular life in Abruzzo with a light and poetic touch.
