Lot no. 131
RAIMBAULT (A.T). Le Parfait Cuisinier, ou Bréviaire des Gourmands, contenant les recettes les plus nouvelles dans l'art de la Cuisine, et de nouveaux procédés propres à porter cet art à sa dernière perfection. Second edition, entirely revised, with the addition of the Cuisinier étranger, and various very valuable recipes... Revised with the greatest care by Mr Borel, (...). Paris, Delacour, February 1811. In-12 half olive-brown basane, smooth spine decorated with gilt palettes and fleurons, red basane title page (pastiche binding). This is a "completely revised" second edition, the first having appeared in 1809 and already bearing the words "revue et augmentée par M. Borel". In reality, it is all by Borel and was written by the prolific compiler Charles-Yves Cousin, known as d'Avallon (see Rabbe and Quérard), who also wrote La nouvelle Cuisinière Bourgeoise in 1815.
Raimbault "homme de bouche" seems to be a made-up name.
Curious and enigmatic frontispiece "Le Roti sans pareil ou le délice des gastronomes". One folding plate.
From the library of Philippe Messager (2002, no. 248).
Some brown spots.
