RAPHAEL (1483-1520). Based on. The School of Athens. Oil on canvas from the beginning of the XIXth century (late XVIIIth century ?) based on the original original Vatican fresco by Raphael. Related work: The version copied after Raphael by Philotée-François Duflos circa 1741. This fresco, measuring 5 x 8 metres, was exhibited in the Lille museum in 1849, then transferred to the Hôtel de Ville in 1893 before being destroyed by fire on 23 April 1916. Attached to the painting is a notarised letter from 1927 concerning the version by Duflos that was destroyed in the bombing. Dimensions: 55 x 85 cm.
