A rare and important work of historical-topographical erudition entitled 'Plinio Seniore Illustrato nella descrizione del Piceno', written by Br. Antonio Brandimarte (Min. Conv. and Roman Parish priest) and published in Rome in 1815 at the Stamperia dell'Ospizio Apostolico by Carlo Mordacchini. The work is dedicated to the Holiness of Pope Pius VII, whose papal coat of arms stands out elegantly on the title page. The volume is a fundamental study for the reconstruction of the ancient geography of Marche and northern Abruzzo based on the texts of Pliny the Elder. Iconographic Kit: The lot includes the valuable folded map of 'Ancient Picenum', showing the territories between Ancona and the river Aterno (Pescara), detailing the Ager Palmensis, the Ager Praetutianus and the ancient Roman cities such as Asculum (Ascoli Piceno) and Hadria (Atri). Binding: The volume is presented in a magnificent luxury binding in full red morocco (or fine leather), richly decorated in gold on the plates with phytomorphic motif frames and a central oval mirror.
