Lot no. 3
Rare Latvian belt from the 20s. Leather, similar construction to the English pattern 1914, but without back straps and with grey painted iron buckle. Well marked kara apgerbu darbnīca which in Latvian means Military Clothing Workshop. A 1918 date may not be original as the model would be 1927. A complete breastplate was sent to the Brussels Museum in 1929. The back buckles used to fasten the brace are missing. Attached is a relic of an English pattern 1914 belt that could be used as the basis for a repair. Uncommon, the Latvian army of 1919 numbered only 24,000 men. Wear from use, patina. Rare Latvian Belt, 1920s Made of leather, constructed similarly to the British Pattern 1914 model but without rear straps and featuring grey-painted iron fittings. Clearly marked "kara apgerbu darbnīca," meaning "Military Clothing Workshop" in Latvian. The date "1918" may be a later addition, as the design corresponds more closely to the 1927 pattern. A complete harness of this model was sent to the Brussels Museum in 1929. The rear buckles for attaching the harness are missing. Includes a relic British Pattern 1914 belt that could serve as a base for restoration. Uncommon piece, as the Latvian army in 1919 numbered only 24,000 men. Wear from use, nice patina.
