RARE CELTIC RED AGATE INTAGLIO WITH RUNIC INSCRIPTION. Ca. AD 100 - 300 A gold pendant with an oval mount encasing a red agate insert, the rim formed by a thin band with circular motifs and the long sides fitted with short, beaded tubes for threading. The convex face is overlaid by a broad gold cross centred by a circular boss with radiating lines; the flat face is engraved with a runic inscription. Size: 16mm x 26.6mm; Weight: 7.13g. Provenance: Private London collection; previously with F.A., Brussels; Belgian collection formed between the early 1970s to the early 1990s. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
