Rare marine surgeon's case with two compartments containing numerous surgical instruments.
The box is made of wood and mahogany veneer with brass spandrels and decorated with an engraved cartouche "Monsieur AURRAN chirurgien de marine". The interior is lined with red suede (wear) and bears a period label: "Composition de la caisse complète d'instruments de chirurgie pour les bâtiments de l'état, Paris le 18 octobre 1854.
