Lot no. 312
Rare English Pneumatic, Air Rifle by Staudenmayer London (?), Early 19th Century. A finely crafted English pneumatic rifle, probably to Staudenmayer of London, dating to the early 19th century. The mechanism features delicate floral engraving, characteristic of high-end British gunsmithing of the Regency period. The air reservoir is ingeniously concealed within the leather-covered wooden buttstock. Austrian and English proof marks are visible on the barrel, confirming its quality. This type of air rifle was particularly valued during African expeditions for its smokeless and quiet discharge and for not requiring gunpowder, which often failed in humid conditions. Excellent condition, with light surface patina consistent with age. A significant example of early pneumatic weaponry. Overall length: 123 cm. Caliber: 13 mm.
