Lot no. 39
RARE FRAGMENT OF A FALSE DOOR STELE
Carved in the hollow of the cartouche with the name of the vizier Amenemhat-ankh. Amenemhatankh is a basilophoric name, meaning "(the king) Amenemhat lives": "Amenemhat" is enclosed in a cartouche, which is a royal prerogative. From this, we deduce that Amenemhatankh should not be dated earlier than the 12th dynasty, as the first pharaohs named Amenemhat were indeed members of that dynasty.
Pink granite from Aswan; 9.5 x 16.4 x 3.5 cm
Egypt, Middle Kingdom, XIIth Dynasty, circa. 1974-1781 BC
A Middle-Kingdom pink granite fragment of false door stela with cartouche of Vizir Amenemhat-Ankh. Dynasty 12th. 1974-1781 B.C.E. Amenemhatankh is a basilophore name, meaning "(king) Amenemhat lives": "Amenemhat" is enclosed in a cartouche, which is a royal prerogative. From this, it is inferred that Amenemhatankh must not be dated to a date earlier than the 12th dynasty, because the first pharaohs named Amenemhat are indeed members of this dynasty.
