RARE GREEK CHALCIDIAN HELMET WITH HORNS OF ZEUS AMUN Ca. 350 - 250 BC. A Chalcidian bronze helmet formed from two joined halves, the seam running vertically through the centre of the bowl and secured with a line of rivets. The seam is flanked on either side by shallow median ridges. The front of the bowl is embossed with a pair of large volutes in low relief, shaped to resemble ram’s horns, linked across the front and sides by shallow ribs. On either side of the bowl are raised images of stylised quadrupeds, possibly ibexes, each with an elongated body and prominent backward-curving horns. The lower edge of the bowl is fitted with hinged cheekpieces, each bordered along the upper margin with a dotted line.
