Commentary:
These medals were offered to the guests and crowds present. Some are also known to have been produced for the coronation of the Emperor or the birth of the King of Rome.
Biography:
Dominique Baron Larrey (1766-1842)
Surgeon-in-chief of the Grande Armée, he followed Napoleon throughout his campaigns, right up to Waterloo. He was a professor at the Val-de-Grâce. Nicknamed "the soldier's Providence", he perfected a method of amputation known as circular flap amputation. His works include Mémoires de chirurgie militaire et campagnes (1812-1817), Relation des voyages et des campagnes de 1815 à 1840 (1840) (Académie des sciences, 1829).
