RARE PIN - former Kofler-Truniger collection Probably Merovingian, approx. 6th century AD. Gold sheet in conical shape with gold wire filigree. Set blue and red glass cabochons arranged in two rows. Pin shank partially grooved. L 8 cm. Total weight 17.4 g. 2 cabochons are missing. Gold dented and with small chips. Incrustations. It cannot be said with certainty whether the pin mentioned in the exhibition catalog of the Kunsthaus Zurich (No. 637) actually corresponds to the pin on offer. However, the reference in the Zurich exhibition catalog to Lindenschmit's "Die Altertümer unserer heidnischen Vorzeit, Mainz 1858, Heft X, Tafel 6" is identical to the reference in the auction catalog of Dr. F. X. Weizinger & Co. (Munich 1918), and therefore it can be assumed with a high degree of certainty that this is the pin on offer.
