Lot no. 239
Rare Qajar Persian Battle Ax, 19th Century. A remarkable example of Persian martial craftsmanship from the Qajar period, this rare double-bladed battle ax is richly decorated with intricate chiseling and calligraphic inscriptions. Both crescent-shaped blades are densely etched with Arabic script in elegant kufic and naskh styles, interwoven with delicate floral and zoomorphic motifs including felines and birds, symbolising strength and nobility. The central spear-pointed finial enhances its combat functionality and visual balance, while the entire steel surface exhibits refined craftsmanship, including a pattern on the shaft that reflects traditional Persian aesthetic refinement. This piece likely served both a ceremonial and martial role. An exceptional collectible piece for advanced collectors of Islamic arms and armor, museum institutions, or aficionados of Qajar-era militaria. Excellent preservation for its age, with detailed engraving intact and minor oxidation consistent with historical use. Length 79 cm.
