RARE ROMAN MARBLE PORTRAIT HEAD OF MARCUS CRASSUS. Late Republican Period, Ca. 50 BC. A marble head of Marcus Crassus Licinio with austere, well-defined features, including a high forehead framed by neatly cropped hair and deep horizontal furrows extending above his deeply set eyes, which lack carved pupils. His subtly arched eyebrows lead down to a straight, slightly elongated nose with a well-defined bridge and flared nostrils. The thin, tightly pressed lips have gently downturned corners, complementing the strong jawline and prominent chin. His proportionate ears are carved with naturalistic folds, while the long neck features visible tendons and skin folds, leading down to the irregular, broken lower edge of the bust.
