Rare sumptuous Alençon lace flounce, needlework, mid 19th century. A crinoline flounce of rare length and width entirely in Alençon lace, the motifs linked by the simple Alençon network. Well-balanced decoration of mirrored horns of plenty, each loaded with sprays of flowers in full bloom and foliage, supporting a floral composition with the same sprays in bloom, garlands in falls of florets and bouquets on either side at the top, a mirrored floral composition at the bottom and a pearled river decorated with fashions and supple scrolls festooning the border, the top border delicately cut with alternating knot and floret motifs. Dark ivory cotton, horsehair along both borders. Dim. 7.90 m x 34 cm (good condition, three vertical cuts of 2 to 7 cm and a few small holes in the network, a few spots or freckles mainly at the beginning of the ruffle, dusty)
