Lot no. 133
Rare Spanish Crucifix-Stiletto Dagger, 19th Century. An unusual and striking devotional item, this 19th-century Spanish crucifix conceals a hidden stiletto blade within its shaft. The cross is cast in bronze with a finely detailed figure of Christ in high relief, exhibiting the patina of age. The handle is pulled out to reveal a long, tapered steel stiletto blade-cleverly hidden within the body of the cross. The crucifix is mounted on a turned black wooden handle, providing a firm grip when the blade is revealed. This dual-purpose design represents an intriguing intersection of religious devotion and personal protection, likely created during a period of social or political unrest when clergy required means of self-defence. Good condition. Length 33 cm.
