Rare Imperial Guard foot grenadier drum. Brass case decorated on the front with an eagle under a crown, enriched with four grenades on either side. Blue painted wooden hoops with grenades. Engraved on the stirrup "2nd (?) Foot Grenadier Regiment of the Imperial Guard". With its skins. A.B.E. Second Empire period (Traces of insects on the wooden straps). Diam. 40 cm. Height 34.2 cm. This drum was seen by Mr Guillaume Lecoester, heritage curator and Head of the 19th Century and Symbolism Department at the Musée de l'Armée. "We have an identical drum in the Museum's collections, from the "2nd Regiment of Grenadiers of the Imperial Guard", which is not on display. It is therefore kept in the reserves of the Musée de l'Armée at Satory. A regiment of Imperial Guard grenadiers included two drums per company, i.e. 48 drums for the 2nd regiment from 1854 to 1865, then 42 drums from 1865 to 1870.
