RARE VASE Terracotta H. 15 cm Vinca or Boian culture, Neolithic, c. 5700-4000 BC Piriform and characteristic of Balkan Neolithic cultures, with an elegant and harmonious profile. The vessel consists of a rounded, swollen base, a globular body with a maximum belly in the lower third, gradually narrowing towards the top, then flaring out to form an enlarged truncated cone-shaped neck ending in a circular rim.The finely executed decoration covers the upper part of the vase in several horizontal registers. The lower part of the vase, corresponding to the globular body, is left undecorated, creating an effective visual contrast between the decorated area and the smooth area. The earthenware is beige-brown to light grey in colour, the result of firing in a partially reducing atmosphere. The decoration, finely executed, covers the upper part of the vessel in several horizontal registers. It consists of incised geometric motifs in chevrons or zigzags deeply engraved in the clay before firing, creating a rhythmic and dynamic texture. These decorative bands succeed one another in at least four to five superimposed registers, each band forming a continuous frieze of broken or undulating lines. The lower part of the vessel, corresponding to the globular body, is left plain without decoration, creating an effective visual contrast between ornamented and smooth zones. This division into two zones is typical of Balkan Neolithic ceramic productions. The terracotta presents a beige-brown to light gray colour, resulting from firing in partially reducing atmosphere. The surface is slightly rough with homogeneous ancient patina and earthy concretions indicating archaeological burial.
