A rare and elegant volume of Poems in Milanese Dialect by Carlo Porta, a famous exponent of 19th-century vernacular literature. The work is an important testimony to the Milanese culture and irony of the time. Edition details: Publisher/Sale: Sold at Libreria Viscontini e Compagno, Contrada dei Fiori Chiari No. 1915. Iconographic apparatus: The volume is embellished with an illustrated antiporta depicting a popular character with mandolin and an intaglio vignette on the frontispiece depicting a putto with cornucopia. Physical characteristics: Binding: Fine contemporary full leather (or morocco) orange/red binding. Decorations: The spine is richly decorated with gilt floral friezes, titles stamped in gold on a dark gusset and dry-stamped frames.
