Raúl Valdivieso Rodríguez (1931 Santiago de Chile - 1993 ibid.) "Sin titulo" Metal (bronze?), probably nickel- or chrome-plated; brown wooden base. Label on the underside with artist's inscription and "Sin titulo". Valdivieso is one of the most important Chilean sculptors of his generation, although a large part of his oeuvre was created abroad - in France, Spain and Morocco. He studied sculpture at the Escuela de Bellas Artes in Santiago from 1952-1957, and in Paris from 1957. There and in London, he familiarised himself with the works of Alberto Giacometti and the new British sculpture of Henry Moore. Valdivieso was Roberto Matta's assistant in France for several years. From 1961 to 1971 he lived in Madrid, working as a sculptor in plaster, bronze, wood and stone; Claudio Bravo became his most important artist friend. From 1971 to 1974 he lived in Morocco before returning to Chile in 1974, where he focussed on stone sculpture. Overall h. 24 cm. Abstract sculpture. Metal (bronze?), nickel or chrome-plated, wooden base. Inscribed and titled "Sin titulo" on a label on the bottom.
