Menius after Zobel's death. - Kaspers 37 - VD16 D 751 - STC 343 - Homeyer, Verz. d. Meder p. 153 ff. - Since the publication of the official papal text of the Corpus juris canonici in 1582, text-critical work has been accompanied by the watchful, censorious eye of the Church. Textual criticism within the framework of the now established text was possible, but unbiased scholarly work on the text, such as on the Corpus juris civilis, was dangerous. Nevertheless, text-critical work continued on the Corpus juris canonici. This research reached its peak with the Pithou brothers, students of the famous Jacobus Cuiacius at the University of Bourges. - Some browning, some brown stains in the upper centrefold. I.
