Lot no. 125
RECKZIEGEL (Attributed to Anton). Rigi-Bahn. Luzern - Vitznau - Rigi-Kulm. Bern, Hubacher & Co, 1912. Colour lithographed poster, 90 x 64 cm, framed. The poster depicts Lake Lucerne dominated by the Rigi-Kulm. This poster was printed annually with the Rigi train timetable insert for the current season. Condition: B (tear repaired at top, but visible). A version for the winter season exists, designed by Anton Reckziegel.
Anton Reckziegel (Gablonz, 1865 - Mödling, 1936) was a Czech-born lithographer. He moved to Switzerland in 1892, first to Aarau, where he worked for the lithographic printer Müller & Trüb, who published his first poster on the Rigi in 1896, and then to Bern, where he worked for Hubacher & Co, with whom he collaborated for many years. He was an undisputed master of posters promoting Switzerland as a tourist destination during the Belle Epoque, in a naturalist style similar to that of the Frenchman Hugo d'Alesi.
A fine and unusual poster.
