Lot no. 108
A rosewood veneered PARQUET REGULATOR in amaranth frames, the body slightly curved, of violonnée form, the head also curved, the white enamelled dial with window indicating the months and days of the month, the centre marked: "temps vrai" and signed "Lepaute à Paris". Extensive ormolu ornamentation such as: mascaron crowned with acanthus leaves and fire pot at the top, laurel falls and tori, bows. Late Louis XV period. Dimensions: 230 x 83 x 30 cm. The veneer is detached, worn, missing and restored, the glass is missing. The cabinetwork is similar to that of Nicolas Petit (1732 - 1791). This is no longer a "tormented" and not yet rigid model of furniture, in "Louis XVI" mahogany, but just the right balance, particularly elegant without mawkishness, without ostentation, but very present visually: few but important bronzes that catch the eye. Related works: a similar regulator model by Nicolas Petit and Pierre-Henry Lepaute (1745-1805) is in the Kunstgewerbemuseum Berlin (inv. no. 1980,91). A similar model is in the Musée Jacquemart André in Paris. A similar regulator was sold at auction by Etude de Baeque in Lyon on 16 November 2019.
