Lot no. 1800
Reinhold Nägele (1884 Murrhardt - 1972 Stuttgart) Summer landscape near Murrhardt View of the varied, deserted landscape in the Swabian Forest, in which an electricity or telegraph pole with cables rises into the sky as the only sign of modernity. Nägele's landscape painted in the New Objectivity style in 1938. Nägele had already been exhibiting his poetic pictorial worlds regularly at Paul Cassirer in Berlin since 1906/07 and at the Württembergischer Kunstverein from 1909. Magazine illustrations such as those in "Jugend" (1912) also made him widely known. During the Weimar Republic, Nägele was one of the established artists, exhibiting at the Great Berlin Art Exhibition and the exhibition of the Academy of Arts in Berlin, among others, and in 1927 he had a solo exhibition with Fritz Gurlitt. During the Third Reich, Nägele was severely marginalised because of his Jewish wife, and in 1937 he was banned from his profession and expelled from the Reich Chamber of Fine Arts. Nägele managed to emigrate with his family to the USA in 1939, where he lived until 1963. Tempera/cardboard. L. u. on the border stone sign. and dat. "R. Nägele 5 August 1938 Murrhardt". 36 cm x 52 cm. Frame. Tempera on cardboard. Signed and dated 1938 with location Murrhardt.
