BINDING. Small bound formats. Brussels, A.R.A., 1991. Small in-12, polycarbonate boards decorated with a grid pattern structured in vertical and horizontal red, black, cream, purple and blue stripes, the intersections underlined by fine red and black lines, spine decorated in the same way, cover and spine, polycarbonate folder and slipcase decorated like the boards (Edgard Claes 1991). Catalogue of the exhibition organised by the Belgian section of the Friends of Art Bookbinding at the Bibliotheca Wittockiana in Brussels from 9 February to 29 March 1991. Edition of 900 copies. Polycarbonate binding decorated and signed by Brother Crusader Edgard Claes. This Belgian clergyman is one of the most imaginative artists of the last twenty-five years. A friar in the Order of the Holy Cross, "[...] an inventor of structures and manners, Edgar Claes is an undeniable artist [...] His contribution to bookbinding is considerable and highly varied; he is a trainer of forms who passes himself by in all modesty" (Yves Peyré, Histoire de la reliure de création, p. 241).
