BINDING XVIIth-RUETTE (Macé). [Diurnale Parisiense...Domini Joannis Francisci de Gondi Parisiensis Archiepiscopi. Paris, Denys de la Noue, 1625]. 1 vol. in-8 (188 x 114 mm). Red morocco, mosaic of dark brown, light brown, and marbled morocco, gilt decoration, spine with 6 bands, chain on the edges, inner lace, marbled edges under gilt (period binding). Regulated and coloured copy. Title and address restored according to the approval of Canon Jean Filesac, dated January 1625.
VERY BEAUTIFUL "cathedral" BINDING by Macé Ruette, in mosaic morocco.
The volume, incomplete of the title page and 8 leaves (e8, O5, Q1, X1, Y7, Z6, Gg2, Hh8 - most probably coloured engravings), has suffered from the tearing of these numerous leaves (some quires detached).
Upper hinge cracked over 4 cm at head, restorations to cuts and corners with loss of gilding to cuts, stain and bump to marbled morocco compartment at upper corner of front board. 2 scratches to lower cover.
