Lot no. 49
Rembrandt Harmensz. van Rijn (1606-1669) La Petite chasse au lion. Vers 1629. Eau-forte. 118 x 156. Bartsch, Hollstein 116 ; New Hollstein 29. " Given the strong diagonal construction of this composition, it is not that surprising that Rubens was once thought to have been the inspiration for it but [...] the scene was mainly inspired by the prints of Antonio Tempesta : the exact same fallen horse even appears in one of his etchings. " (E. Hinterding, Rembrandt Etchings from the Frits Lugt Collection, vol. I, Busum, THOTH Publishers, Paris, Fondation Custodia, 2008, p. 246).
