Lot no. 131
Rémy VAN DEN ABEELE (1918-2006) Untitled. Oil on canvas, framed, 70 x 90 cm. Signed upper left. Note: Rémy van den Abeele trained with Louis Buisseret in Mons and was introduced to Surrealism by Marcel Parfondry and Achille Chavée. He worked with the Schéma group from 1956. In 1972, he was the subject of a film with commentary by Louis Scutenaire, narrated by Irène Hamoir, and in 1978 a book was published by the Centre Belge du Bijou Contemporain, with text by Bernard de Mello. Scutenaire and Hamoir also gave several titles to his paintings; their collection, whose executor is Tom Gutt, includes several works by the artist, including Nu mon amie (1970). Van den Abeele also painted a portrait of Scutenaire in 1971, which Scutenaire considered to be absolutely accurate.
