RENAISSANCE KNIFE Italy, probably Florence, around 1500. Flat, slightly trapezoidal niello handle engraved on both sides with figurative depictions and allegorical reserves as well as a blind coat of arms cartouche. The back of the grip is marked FURENTI and the underside CEDE. Rounded, curved brass grip cap partly engraved with foliate scrolls. Rectangular stepped brass ferrule. Edged and indented gilded grip bolster. Partially engraved and gilded blade with sickle point. Decoration in the form of a drummer in supine view, a bird of paradise and Cupid. Probably formerly with continuous decoration along the entire blade. L 26.1 cm. Grip cap heavily rubbed. Lower part of the grip with larger defects to the silver. Grip ferrule with gap and somewhat crooked. Grip ferrule slightly loose. Blade heavily corroded and heavily worn in places. Gilding rubbed in places.
