René Boivin An exceptional, extremely rare and avant-garde pair of brooches in 850 thousandths platinum and 18K 750 thousandths white gold, each central element presenting an elongated octagon with a geometric design combining circles, arabesques and Xs entirely paved with 8/8 and rose-cut diamonds in seed and millegrain settings, a central Old European Cut diamond weighing approximately 0.30 carat in a closed setting, the roller shoulders holding a bevelled disc of rock crystal, enhanced in its centre by a triangular element with a rounded tip set with six 8/8-cut diamonds in seed and millegrain settings. Brooch system with double pin and single pump lock (two diamonds missing and chipping of the crystal on the back, barely visible from the front). Number of diamonds per brooch: 99 diamonds for a total of 198 diamonds. Estimated weight of diamonds: 3 carats per brooch, approx. 6 carats in total. Probably transformed in the 1980s by the Maison Boivin, the piece is accompanied by its certificate from the Maison Boivin, by Mr Thomas Toroni. Dog's head hallmark for platinum (from 1912) and eagle's head hallmark for 18K gold. French hallmark Sté R - serpent - B for René Boivin. Diameter: 51 mm - Gross weight: 34.65 g and 35.75 g Expert's note: These two Art Deco brooches were made in the 1980s by Maison Boivin. As so often in the history of the Maison and in jewellery, different elements were assembled to give life to a new piece of jewellery, in this case the central elements (probably bracelet links) and the rock crystal discs.
