Lot no. 553
René LALIQUE (1886 - 1945), attributed to
ATO - House founded by Léon HATOT (1883 - 1953)
Very rare clock offered for the maiden voyage of the liner Normandie in 1935.
Round in moulded bluish glass, with central decoration of the liner's bow on a bas-relief sunburst background. Around the dial, the capital letters NORMANDIE mark the hours. The whole rests on a glass base in the shape of waves. The back bears the words "ATO - MADE IN FRANCE" and "Cie Gle TRANSATLANTIQUE FRENCH LINE" on the lower base, making this a very rare model and attesting that this clock was one of the few offered on the occasion of the liner's maiden voyage on 29 May 1935.
Height: 15 cm
